Father allegedly slaps mother of his son during argument at their home

A Fruitland Park man was arrested after allegedly slapping the mother of his child when she got upset over how he spoke to their son.

An officer responded to an altercation at an undisclosed Lake County residence around 9 a.m. Saturday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department.

Upon arrival, the officer met with both parties who began to speak simultaneously. EH, 35, advised that he and the female victim had been arguing. The victim then stated he slapped her on the face, and he admitted he did, the report said.

The officer asked the victim to go back to the residence to separate the parties and speak with H. He advised that this had been an ongoing issue and admitted this was not the first time he had been physical, the report said.

H explained his son was making statements that he felt his mother did not like him, and he told his son it was not true. They were about to leave the residence to take the child to a derby race. During this conversation, H and the victim began arguing. He did “tap her on the face,” the report said.

H also stated they had children in common, and both lived at the residence as a family unit. He was detained in handcuffs and secured in a patrol vehicle, the report said.

The officer next spoke with the victim who advised the argument began due to H yelling at their son. He told their 6-year-old child that if he did not want him there, then that was too bad, and the child could leave. The victim and H started to argue because she was upset about what he said to their son, the report said.

During the argument, H asked for the keys to a vehicle, but the victim continued the argument instead. He then slapped her in the face, the report said.

The officer observed the victim to have a red mark resembling part of a hand on the left side of her face near her left eye and eyebrow. She did not want medical assistance, the report said.

Additionally, one of the officers later completed a report with the Department of Children and Families as both H and the victim’s children witnessed the altercation, the report said.

H was charged with simple battery (domestic). The native of Bosnia was transported to Lake County Jail and released after posting $1,000 bond.
