A driver on Interstate 95 in Brevard County struck a Florida Highway Patrol trooper’s cruiser and a deputy’s patrol vehicle, according to FHP.
The crash occurred northbound near mile marker 185, FHP said Saturday morning on social media.
Photos from the scene show the two damaged vehicles. The FHP cruiser’s rear appears crushed, with its trunk lid stuck open, while the nearby sheriff’s-office patrol vehicle sports an even more mangled rear end.
Troopers later said they were investigating a hit-and-run crash on northbound I-95 near mile marker 185 and were blocking the left lane.
According to the FHP, a Brevard County Sheriff’s Office vehicle and a FHP patrol car were stopped in the left lane. The sheriff’s office vehicle was directly behind the trooper’s vehicle.
Troopers said a blue Kia failed to stop for the sheriff’s office vehicle and as a result, the front of the Kia struck the back of the BCSO vehicle. The impact cause the deputy’s vehicle to strike the back of the trooper’s vehicle.
According to the FHP, the driver of the Kia was transported to Holmes Regional with serious injuries.
The trooper was taken to to Holmes Regional with minor injuries.
The sheriff’s office said in a statement to News 6 that their deputy was not injured in the crash.
“This is why the #MoveOver law exists. Slow down. Move over. Lives depend on it,” the post states.
