A woman driving an SUV was struck by a train while approaching a railroad crossing on Saturday morning in Sumter County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the 36-year-old woman was traveling eastbound on Noble Avenue, east of U.S. Route 301, when she approached railroad tracks.
The woman observed the railroad warning lights and crossing arms activated, which indicated an oncoming train. According to the FHP, she then attempted to make a U-turn at the railroad crossing and partially entered the path of the train when doing so.
This resulted in the train colliding with the rear part of the vehicle.
Neither the driver of the SUV nor the train personnel were injured, according to the FHP.
