A dump truck driver was killed Wednesday morning when a tire on the truck ruptured on the Dolphin Expressway in Miami-Dade County, authorities confirmed.

According to Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alex Camacho, the incident occurred at about 10:20 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the highway near Northwest 137th Avenue.

Camacho said the dump truck became disabled due to a flat tire, prompting the driver to contact a mobile repair service.

But while the service provider was inflating the tire, it ruptured, striking the driver, Camacho said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity has not yet been released.
