A 28-year-old Belleview woman has been arrested on a charge of DUI manslaughter for the death of a 27-year-old Ocala man, who was fatally ejected from her vehicle after she allegedly veered off a local roadway and struck a large tree.
The accident occurred near the intersection of State Road 35 and SE 102nd Place Road at around 2:35 a.m. on Saturday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver was traveling southbound on SR 35 when she failed to negotiate a curve to the right.
Her sedan exited the roadway and entered the west grass shoulder, where it began rotating before striking a wooden fence and colliding with a large tree.
After the sedan struck the tree, the Ocala man, who was riding as a passenger and was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest on the west shoulder of the roadway.
According to FHP, the man sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at HCA Hospital Ocala.
The female driver sustained minor injuries. She was later arrested for driving under the influence leading to manslaughter.
