FHP: Pedestrian’s death prompts U.S. 1 to close for hours in Miami-Dade

 A man died on Thursday morning after a driver struck him in deep southern Miami-Dade County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The man was walking at about 5:50 a.m., and he was crossing the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 when the driver of a black Hyundai struck him, according to FHP.

The man died near Southwest 291 Street, according to Lt. Alex Camacho, a spokesman for FHP.

Investigators closed the northbound lanes of U.S. 1 for about four hours. The investigation was still ongoing before noon.
