A semi-truck overturned on Interstate 95 near County Road 210 in St. Johns County Thursday night after an SUV suffered a “tire malfunction,” according to Florida Highway Patrol, causing southbound traffic in the area to be backed up for hours.
FHP’s crash report states that at 6:25 p.m. Thursday, the SUV and semi-truck were traveling south on I-95, one mile north of CR-210; the SUV was in left lane, while the semi-truck was in the right lane.
After the SUV suffered the tire malfunction, the report says the driver, who is a 68-year-old Orlando man, “changed lanes from the left lane to the right lane,” directly into the path of the semi-truck.
As a result, the SUV’s right side struck the semi-truck’s left front side, causing the semi-truck to overturn on its right side, according to FHP. The semi-truck then came to final rest, obstructing the right and center lanes of I-95 South.
“Fortunately, no injuries have been reported,” St. Johns County Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post.
The driver of the semi-truck is a 39-year-old Kissimmee man, according to the report. FHP did not release the names of either driver.
