A single-vehicle crash took place Wednesday afternoon in northeast Leon County, leaving a 19-year-old dead, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP has identified the driver as a 19-year-old male from Thomasville.
FHP received a report regarding the crash, which FHP said happened on Thomasville Road northbound at Cherokee Plantation Road, around 2:34 p.m. Wednesday.
The vehicle was traveling northbound on US 319 at Cherokee Plantation Road before FHP said it traveled onto the median and up an embankment. The vehicle then overturned and landed on its roof in the left travel lane of US 319, according to FHP.
FHP said the vehicle then came to a final rest on the left travel lane upright facing southwest.
The vehicle lost control for unknown reasons, according to FHP.
The Leon County Sheriff’s Office announced just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday that a road closure is in effect on Thomasville Road northbound at Cherokee Plantation Road due to a traffic crash. FHP said traffic is being diverted just south of Cherokee Plantation Road.
The Florida Highway Patrol’s live traffic crash and road condition report revealed a fatality in that area just before 2:40 p.m. Wednesday. FHP arrived on scene around 2:50 p.m., according to the FHP report.
