FHP: Woman hit, killed on U.S. 1 near Ormond early Thursday

A woman walking on U.S. 1 near Ormond Beach was hit and killed by a vehicle early Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred at 2:50 a.m. on U.S. 1 north of Destination Daytona, troopers said.

According to FHP Trooper Migdalisis Garcia, a 33-year-old Palm Coast woman traveling north on U.S. 1 in her Toyota Corolla struck the woman, who was walking in the travel lane of the road and was not in a marked pedestrian crossing.

The pedestrian was killed at the scene of the crash. The Palm Coast driver remained at the scene of the accident, Garcia said.

The incident remains under investigation, according to FHP.
