Fight at Manatee County gas station sends one to the hospital

A fight in a gas station parking lot overnight sent one man to the hospital and another to the Manatee County jail.

On Jan. 22, at 7:36 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance at the Marathon gas station in the 2000 block of 14th St. W.

Witnesses reported that a customer, later identified as PS, ran over another customer with his vehicle.

Witnesses said S and the victim, who arrived separately, got into an argument inside the store and continued to fight in the parking lot.

S retrieved a hatchet from his car and threatened the victim. He then got into his vehicle and hit the victim before driving away.

The victim suffered injuries that included a broken leg.

S was arrested Thursday morning, and charged with:

  • Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon
  • Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
  • Leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury

The investigation is ongoing.
