Fire destroys sober living home in Naples, leaves eight residents displaced

Crews from the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District responded to a residential fire at 4:32 a.m. Monday, at 4020 Coconut Circle North.

Lewis Guerriero, owner of Louie’s Place Recovery Residence, was devastated by the loss. He explained they suspect the fire started in the lanai, sparked by a cord connected to a battery, and quickly spread through the back of the house.

All eight residents inside the sober living home escaped unharmed, but the property has been declared unsalvageable.

Tragically, a rescue cat died from smoke inhalation.

“This was a safe haven for all of them. Now they’re going to be displaced,” Guerriero said. He and his wife Michelle rushed to the scene after receiving a call at 5 a.m., only to find the home in ruins.

Guerriero, who recovered from addiction here 17 years ago, expressed deep concern for the residents. “I have two other properties and can help place a couple of them, but some will need assistance from the Red Cross,” he said.

Friends arrived throughout the day to help salvage personal belongings. Photos, clothes, and furniture were destroyed in the blaze.

Despite the devastation, the Guerrieros are grateful that no one was injured and are praying that the displaced residents can find safe places to stay.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. Guerriero’s final plea: “Just pray for us.”
