A fire was reported Friday morning at a two-story home in Cooper City.
According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael B. Kane, a witness called 911 to report the fire in the 11500 block of Southwest 53rd Place.
He said crews arrived to find heavy flames coming from the garage of the home, which extended into the attic space.
“The garage had a converted bedroom, which made it difficult for firefighters to gain access,” Kane told Local 10 News in an email.
Neighbors told Local 10′s Annaliese Garcia that a woman and her young son were inside the home, but were able to get out in time.
According to Kane, the fire was extinguished within about 30 minutes.
“I think the home can be rehabilitated and repaired,” he said.
Kane said no injuries were reported.
The State Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
