A home in southeast Ocala sustained heavy damage on Sunday night after a porch fire spread to the attic.
According to Ocala Fire Rescue, multiple units were dispatched to the 3600 block of SE 12th Place in Ocala on Sunday, January 26, in reference to a house fire.
When OFR crews arrived on scene, they observed smoke and flames near the back of a single-story home. The fire, which had originated on the back porch, had spread into the soffit and the attic space.
Firefighters quickly blasted the patio area with water, which “effectively extinguish(ed) the fire.” However, OFR stated that its crew members had to pull down the home’s ceiling to douse the flames in the attic with water.
Shortly after the attic area was exposed, firefighters were able to put out the fire.
There were no injuries reported, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
OFR encourages all residents to “stay vigilant with fire safety practices and to have working smoke detectors in all areas of their home.”
