Gainesville firefighters put out an apartment fire that they say was caused from someone falling asleep while smoking.

Gainesville Fire Rescue crews responded to the fire along Northwest 45th Avenue at around 4 a.m. on Thursday.

Crews arrived to find a small fire in the backroom of the apartment.

The resident had put out most of the flames and all the residents were able to get out with just some minor smoke inhalation.

Officials were able to put out the rest of the fire and are reminding people that if they do smoke then to do it outside safely.
