Firefighters save 4 dogs, family heirlooms from burning home in Marion County

SUMMERFIELD, Fla. (WCJB) – Four dogs are safe after a home in Summerfield caught on fire on Monday morning.

Marion County Fire Rescue crews say a fire started at a home on Southeast 140th Place around 10 a.m. 911 callers told dispatchers that four dogs were trapped inside.

Smoke was pouring out of the building when firefighters arrived at the scene. Crews used thermal imaging cameras to navigate the smoke-filled home and find the trapped animals.

All four dogs were found and brought outside. Crews also recovered important family heirlooms, including an American flag.

The family is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
