Two children have serious injuries after being involved in a five-vehicle crash in Panama City. Officials say the accident happened just before noon on Saturday.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says that a pickup truck was traveling northbound on County Road 2327. They say a SUV was stopped in traffic traveling northbound on County Road 2327 ahead of the pickup truck. A second SUV was traveling southbound on County Road 2327. Two sedans were also reported to be stopped in traffic northbound on County Road 2327 ahead of the pickup truck and the first SUV.
FHP says the driver of the truck did not see the first SUV stopped in traffic, causing the truck to collide with the rear of the SUV. They say the collision caused the SUV to cross the centerline of County Road 2327 and enter the pathway of the second SUV traveling southbound on County Road 2327. They say that caused the two SUVs to collide. The collision reportedly caused the second SUV to overturn on its roof and the first SUV to spin counterclockwise. As the SUV was spinning, they say it then collided with the first sedan that was stopped in traffic. They say that collision caused the first sedan to collide with the rear of the second sedan.
The truck came to a final stop on County Road 2327 facing north. The first SUV came to final rest facing south off the roadway west of County Road 2327. The second SUV came to final rest facing south off the roadway west of County Road 2327 on its roof. The two sedans were moved from the roadway prior to FHP’s arrival.
The driver of the first SUV has minor injuries. FHP says a 7-year-old and an 11-year-old from the second SUV has serious injuries.
