A fire ignited a home along Raggio Drive in Lee County on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the San Carlos Park Fire Protection and Rescue Service District, crews were called to the scene at 3:34 p.m. and saw flames billowing from the roof.
Firefighters secured safety hazards, which included natural gas lines in the home, and worked to extinguish the fire.
SCPFD said initial reports from neighbors indicated that there was a dog inside the home. However, crews found the home was completely unoccupied after multiple searches.
According to SCPFD, crews later learned that the dog was not home at the time of the fire.
The fire caused the roof of the home to collapse after it spread through the attic. Officials said the fire is out and no one was injured.
Fire crews are on the scene for salvage and overhaul. Estero Fire Rescue, South Trail Fire Rescue, and Lee County Emergency Medical Services also responded to the scene.
SCFPD officials pointed out there were several lightning strikes in the area but said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
