Florida 10-year-old gets into crash on interstate while driving family’s car.

A 10-year-old driver was injured in a crash on Thursday while driving their family’s Nissan, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In a release, troopers said that the crash happened around 6:07 p.m. along Interstate 275 after the child — from St. Petersburg — took the car without permission.

The Nissan was headed north in the left lane along I-275 near I-375 as a truck was driving ahead in the center lane, the release shows.

However, the Nissan “overtook and sideswiped” the truck, causing the Nissan to rotate and crash into a bridge rail, troopers explained. The child driver suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Meanwhile, troopers said that the truck came to a controlled stop. The truck driver — a 27-year-old Wimauma man — and his two passengers were uninjured.
