A man was arrested after a hit-and-run involving a fire truck in Volusia County on Tuesday, according to authorities.
The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said a car struck a fire truck that was stopped along International Speedway Boulevard while deputies were responding to a separate rollover crash.
As deputies responded to the rollover crash, a man failed to stop his car, striking a Volusia County fire truck before fleeing toward DeLand, almost crashing again several times, VSO said.
R, 27, let two passengers out of his car in DeLand, VSO said. He then tried to pass traffic on Amelie Avenue and hit a culvert, eventually crashing into a pole.
Body camera video shows deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers pulling a man out from under his car, when a deputy learned about the hit-and-run nearby.
When the deputy arrived, R was running into a Publix plaza, according to body camera video.
“While VSO K-9 Red was eager to track him down, FHP caught up with him first,” VSO said.
R was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude with property damage, leaving the scene of a crash, reckless driving, resisting and violation of probation,
VSO said he was taken to the hospital before being transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
