A Florida man is dead after the large overhang by the entrance to the Bar Harbor Regency Hotel collapsed on top of him Monday morning, according to authorities.

The Bar Harbor Fire Department said crews responded to the hotel at 123 Eden St. shortly after 6:45 a.m., as a person was reported to have been trapped under the collapsed structure.

First responders were able to find the trapped person and freed them from the rubble.

Mark King, 64, of Boynton Beach, was identified as the victim, who died of his injuries at the scene.

Officers from the Bar Harbor & Mount Desert Police Department then responded to the hotel to begin a death investigation.

The Department of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is taking the lead on the investigation into the incident. The Maine Chief Medical Examiner’s Office is also involved in the investigation.
