A Fort Lauderdale Police officer who was involved in a crash with a suspected stolen vehicle in Davie was hospitalized early Monday along with four people who were inside the other vehicle, officials said.
According to Davie Police, the crash happened around 2 a.m. near Southwest 45th Street and South State Road 7, not far from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Hollywood.
Davie Police officials said the officer was in the process of investigating a stolen vehicle when the police vehicle and suspect vehicle collided at the intersection.
The officer was transported to Broward Health Medical Center, while the four subjects were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
NBC6 cameras captured a tow truck taking away a police cruiser at the scene. Two other cars that were severely damaged were also towed away from the scene.
Due to the crash, State Road 7 was backed up for several hours and the traffic lights at the intersection remain disabled.
The cause of the crash or who was at fault remains under investigation, police said.
