Former elementary school teacher sentenced to life for capital sexual battery

 The man charged with seven counts of molestation and one count of sexual battery on children under 12 has been sentenced to life in the Florida Department of Corrections.

William Charles Carawan, 33, of Fort White, was identified in 2022 by Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) deputies as the suspect who sexually battered at least four victims between 2019 and 2022.

He taught at Bell Elementary School before being arrested by Baker County and Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies on May 20, 2022.

Carawan was adjudicated guilty on Tuesday at his sentencing for sexual battery and molestation charges.
