Fort Myers groomer’s mobile van destroyed in sudden fire

A Fort Myers pet groomer is picking up the pieces after her mobile grooming van was destroyed in a sudden fire.

Elisabeth Cossu, owner of Liz’s Grooming, had recently fulfilled her dream of owning a mobile grooming business — until disaster struck on Monday.

Her fiancé, Julian Willard, was driving the van to get new tires when one exploded near Summerlin Road. Within seconds, the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Iona-McGregor Fire District responded quickly, but the van was already a total loss. Officials believe the tire explosion ruptured the brake line, causing flammable fluid to ignite the fire.

Cossu and her fiancé estimate it will cost around $18,000 to replace the van. So far, they’ve raised over $3,000 through a community relief fund.

Despite the setback, Cossu remains determined to return to work, saying her love for animals — from dogs to ferrets to chickens — keeps her going.
