Fourth pedestrian killed on U.S. 441 in Marion County in last 3 weeks

A pedestrian pushing a cart was fatally struck on U.S. Highway 441 in Marion County on Friday afternoon, marking at least the fourth fatality on the local roadway in less than a month.

The latest incident occurred at around 1:15 p.m. on Friday, April 18, near the intersection of U.S. Hwy 441 and SE 151st Street, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP stated that prior to the accident, a 2025 Chevrolet pickup truck was heading southbound on U.S. Hwy 441 in the outside lane. At the same time, the male pedestrian was pushing a metal cart while walking southbound, in the direction of traffic, near the same lane.

In the report, a trooper noted that the pickup truck’s front section proceeded to strike the pedestrian, causing him to be thrown onto the nearby grass shoulder. He died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The pickup truck’s driver, a 57-year-old Inverness man, received minor injuries as a result of the collision. The vehicle’s adult male passenger was not hurt.

The report stated that the pedestrian’s identity is unknown at this time.

No further details were provided by FHP.
