A Fruitland Park recreation department employee was fired after crashing into a fence at the Northwest Lake Complex.
The Fruitland Park Police Department announced the arrest of 58-year-old Annette Marie Matters on Tuesday. She had been hired in July 2025 as a part-time Adult Sports Coordinator for the City of Fruitland Park.
The investigation began when officers responded to the Northwest Lake Complex regarding a vehicle crash with damage to a chain link fence. At the start, they learned the vehicle had left the scene. It was seen shortly after traveling southbound on Century Boulevard from Shiloh Street.
While being watched, the vehicle struck a large PVC pipe in the ground. A traffic stop was then conducted by responding officers. Matters showed signs of impairment and refused to participate in field sobriety exercises. She also refused to submit to a breath, blood or urine test.
As a result, she was placed under arrest and charged with DUI (fourth or subsequent conviction) and refusal to submit a BAC sample. She was booked at Lake County Jail with bond set at $11,000.
Matters is no longer employed by the City of Fruitland Park.
Her termination comes after Christee Michelle Yoder, the former director of Parks and Recreation, was arrested earlier this year on a fraud charge.
