Gainesville man, 84, dies in crash

A Gainesville man died midday Friday when he lost control of his van on State Road 121.

According to Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash occurred at 11:54 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 121 and NW 166th Avenue north of Gainesville.

For unknown reasons, the driver, an 84-year-old man, lost control of the vehicle as he was driving north on State Road 121. He first swerved to the right, then overcorrected the steering wheel to the left, FHP reported.

The man was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle during the crash.
