In an udder-ly chaotic scene, a semi-truck crash on northbound I-95 left a milky mess for drivers early Wednesday morning.
Palm Beach County Fire Rescue (PBCFR) said its units were dispatched to the scene at mile marker 63, near the 6th Avenue N exit, at around 12:15 a.m. Firefighters learned that a semi-truck had collided with a wall, causing the trailer to separate from the truck. The trailer, consisting of crated milk, spilled across all northbound lanes, creating a slippery situation for drivers.
PBCFR evaluated 11 people involved in the incident, and fortunately, all were uninjured and declined treatment or transport to a hospital.
The trailer was carrying approximately 4,160 gallons of milk. Photos taken at the scene show the crates of milk littering the highway.
PBCFR said a small diesel fuel leak from a saddle tank was quickly contained, preventing further issues.
To tackle the milky chaos, a skid-steer was brought in to assist with the cleanup of the spilled milk and crates. PBCFR utilized a 3,000-gallon tender truck, employing an elevated stream from Ladder 35 to dilute and wash away the milk from the roadway.
Southbound lanes were reopened first, while northbound lanes remained closed for a longer period. PBCFR units cleared the scene at 3:49 a.m., handing over the investigation to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), who will conduct a crash investigation.
