Grandparents killed, 3-year-old hospitalized in 3-vehicle crash while returning from Busch Gardens

Three people were killed in a three-vehicle crash in Lake Wales Saturday night, deputies said.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said at about 9:50 p.m., Hannah Wieser, 22, of Winter Haven was driving her Ford Flex on State Road 60 when she tried to pass a van.

However, deputies said the woman ended up crashing head-on into a Ford F-150 east of CR-630 carrying a Port St. Lucie couple and their 3-year-old grandson. The van, which was carrying a family visiting Florida from England, then struck Wieser’s car but suffered minimal damage.

Wieser and the grandparents, identified as 54-year-old Luis Rodriguez and 52-year-old Jomar Maldonado, were killed in the collision. The 3-year-old, Jaydyn, was hospitalized and is expected to survive, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said the Port St. Lucie family was coming home from a trip to Busch Gardens at the time of the crash.
