Haines City police investigating 2nd shooting within 2 days

A suspect was taken into custody Sunday following a shooting in Haines City that left one person injured.

Officers with the Haines City Police Department reported that they were investigating a shooting around 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29.

The incident reportedly occurred at a home near U.S. 17-92 and Kentucky Street.

One adult victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. As of Sunday night, there was no further word on their condition.

Police said the alleged shooter took off on foot but was later located and arrested by Haines City officers with the assistance of a Polk County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit.

Sunday’s incident marks the second shooting reported within the city within the past few days.

Two women, who police said were “intentionally targeted,” were shot while driving a vehicle in Haines City on Friday evening.

However, as of Sunday, investigators said they do not believe there is any correlation between the two shootings.

No further information was immediately available.
