Hialeah man arrested on murder charge after giving wife cocaine that killed her: Cops

Months after police said a Hialeah woman died from ingesting cocaine, the husband who allegedly gave her the drugs is facing a murder charge, records show.

RL, 37, was arrested Tuesday on charges of first-degree murder/cocaine and cocaine possession, an arrest report showed.

According to the report, On May 28, Hialeah Police responded to a home in the 3500 block of W. 89th Place for an unresponsive female.

Officers met with her husband, L, and in the home found a bag of cocaine, the report said.

The victim, who wasn’t named in the report, was taken to Palmetto Hospital where she died on June 1.

The report said her blood later tested positive for cocaine, and the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner determined her cause of death as “acute combined drug (cocaine, ethanol) toxicity.”

“Based on the fact of the defendant’s unlawful distribution of the cocaine to the victim caused her death, the defendant was arrested and charged accordingly,” the report said.

L was booked into jail and appeared before a judge on Wednesday.

“So he purchased cocaine, consumed it with his wife, who later passed away as a result of an overdose,” a prosecutor said during the appearance.

“That’s a novel theory,” Judge Mindy Glazer responded.

Glazer questioned whether the charge should be first-degree murder or felony murder, but ultimately ordered Lujan held without bond.
