A 19-year-old man from New York was critically injured in a crash early Wednesday morning in Escambia County.

His passenger, a 19-year-old California man, sustained serious injuries as well.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash occurred around 3:54 a.m. on the entrance ramp for westbound Interstate 10 from Davis Highway.

Troopers say the sedan — driven by the New York man — was traveling at a high speed and was unable to negotiate the curve safely.

The sedan ran off the roadway to the left, went through an unpaved area, and collided with the concrete wall of the bridge, according to FHP.

No further details have been released.
