A high speed chase in Venice on I-75 has sent the suspect to the hospital after he crashed.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the chase started at mile marker 167 (Harborview Road) in Charlotte County and went north to Laurel Road in Venice.

The suspect, later identified as JAM, 22, of Pinecrest, Florida, was traveling at high rates of speed and crashed near Knights Trail Road. Troopers say he attempted to flee from officers but he was apprehended in a joint effort with Sarasota County Sheriff’s deputies and FHP.

FHP spokesman K W told ABC7 drugs were found in the car, including 1,200 marijuana vape cartridges, 20 grams of marijuana and a Glock handgun.

The suspect was taken to the hospital. When able, he is expected to be booked into the Sarasota County Jail facing drug charges and fleeing and eluding law enforcement officers, W said.
