Hit-and-run driver sought after striking pedestrian who was already hit by car.

Investigators are looking for a hit-and-run driver accused of hitting a 52-year-old pedestrian, just after the man was struck by another car only moments before.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office (BSO) said on March 28 just after 8 p.m., dispatch received a call regarding a crash on South State Road 7, off SW 26th Street.

The sheriff’s office said Shelton Reaves was crossing the road when he reached a mid-block in the intersection. At the same time, an Acura was approaching.

Reaves ran trying to beat the oncoming traffic, the driver of the Acura saw Reaves and tried to avoid the collision, however; BSO said Reaves entered the path of the Acura and was struck.

The 23-year-old driver of the Acura stopped, got out of the car and tried to render aid to Reaves along with a bystander, the crash report stated.

Unfortunately, the incident took a devastating turn when a second vehicle, possibly a red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck the sheriff’s office said, struck Reaves and fled the scene northbound.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue rushed Reaves to Memorial Regional Hospital where medical staff pronounced him dead, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said the Acura driver was not impaired, and excessive speed is not considered a factor in the crash.

Anyone with information about the hit-and-run driver or the crash is asked to call Detective Sean Strzalkowski at 954-321-4845. If you wish to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477) or **TIPS (8477).
