Homeless woman arrested in attack on fellow patient at psychiatric hospital

A homeless woman was arrested for battery after attacking a fellow patient as she slept at LifeStream Behavioral Center.

An officer responded to LifeStream Behavioral Center, located at 2020 Tally Rd., regarding a battery at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Dispatch advised that 21-year-old DL and another patient were in an altercation.

The other patient was being taken to UF Health Leesburg Hospital, and she was being loaded into an ambulance when the officer arrived. She stated that while sleeping in the facility, L started hitting her in the face. She did not talk to L prior to the altercation and could not say how many times she was struck, the report said.

The patient sustained a large circular abrasion on her forehead. She was unable to complete a sworn written statement at the time but verbally requested prosecution. She was then taken to the hospital for further medical treatment, the report said.

The officer next spoke to the complainant, a nurse at the facility. She advised that L was court ordered to be at the facility but was discharged by a doctor earlier that day. They were in the process of finishing the paperwork when L struck the other patient in the face as she slept, the report said.

When speaking with L, she claimed to have accidentally struck the other patient while she was asleep. She did this because she had “superpowers,” the report said.

L was arrested on charge of simple battery and transported to Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $1,000.
