Hudson man killed when DUI driver 3x legal limit strikes car, fence, boats: Florida Highway Patrol

Hudson man killed when DUI driver 3x legal limit strikes car, fence, boats: Florida Highway Patrol

A man is dead after a woman driving with a BAC level three times the legal limit struck a car, fence, and three boats in Hudson Sunday evening.

At around 8 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said 37-year-old AM, of Brooksville, was driving a Buick Verano north on US-19 near Bolton Avenue, behind a Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by a 67-year-old Hudson woman.

M attempted to overtake the Chrysler and collided with the back of the car, sending both vehicles off the road. After the initial collision, the Buick struck a fence and three boats in a nearby boatyard before finally coming to a stop.

The Chrysler, after going off the roadway, hit a light pole, a culvert, went airborne, and struck a utility pole and cable box before stopping. The passenger, a 68-year-old Hudson man, suffered serious injuries and was later pronounced dead.

Both drivers were sent to local hospitals with minor injuries, FHP said.

M was later arrested with a BAC of 0.24, three times the legal limit. She was taken to the Pasco County Jail and charged with DUI manslaughter.
