Husband allegedly hits wife in the head over baby’s care

Husband allegedly hits wife in the head over baby’s care

A Leesburg man was arrested for battery after allegedly hitting his wife in the head over their one-month-old’s care.

The wife of 38-year-old G L was woken up by a loud noise in their shared Leesburg home around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. She followed the noise into the living room to see L feeding their one-month-old baby.

She asked him for the baby so he could get some sleep before going to work, but he got angry because there was not enough time for him to do so. The two continued to argue over the baby’s care, during which L punched his wife in the head while holding the baby. She struck him back once in self-defense as the argument continued, the report said.

L then hit her again on her right arm near her elbow, which left a small scratch. Fearing for her safety, she separated herself from the situation and decided to call the police. He had hit her in the past, and she was told by family members to contact law enforcement if he ever did it again, the report said.

When talking to officers, L agreed that he and his wife had gotten into an argument over their baby’s care. He was upset that she did not get up with the baby during the night, even though she was off, and he had to work. During the argument, she tried to grab the baby from him, and he turned away, the report said.

His wife proceeded to push his left shoulder, so he used his free arm to push her away. Nothing else physical happened, and he stated fights like this happened when parents were stressed out, the report said.

L was subsequently arrested on charge of simple battery (domestic). The native of the Marshall Islands was booked at the Lake County Jail with bond set at $1,000.
