Travelers on Interstate 75 are experiencing heavy traffic for large stretches of the highway in Marion County on Saturday, with northbound lanes mostly blocked for the last several hours due to an accident involving a semi-truck.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation and Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 2:41 a.m. on Saturday morning. Multiple agencies are currently at the scene.
Although there are limited details available, units responded at 2:52 a.m. near mile marker 362 in the northbound lanes.
FDOT’s traffic website, FL511.com, shows that the semi-truck is currently blocking lanes between mile markers 357 and 361 in the northbound lanes, and that southbound lanes are also partially impacted.
Cameras maintained by FDOT show backups in the northbound lanes going back at least 10 miles south of mile marker 361.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes for the rest of the morning.
The FHP’s incident report list also shows another crash reported in the northbound lanes near mile marker 354 at 5:43 a.m. There are no road blocks associated with that incident.
