Two lanes of I-75 in Marion County were temporarily blocked Wednesday afternoon because of a fatal crash.
The crash took place along the northbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 364 in the Reddick area, south of County Road 318.
The right and center lanes were blocked for about an hour, with only the right shoulder still blocked at the time of this writing.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report, the driver of an SUV traveling northbound on I-75 lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and struck a tree around 2:10 p.m. after leaving the roadway.
The SUV then caught fire and became engulfed, the report states.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue, according to FHP. Further information about the driver’s identity was not immediately available.
