I-95 NB north of IGP shut down for 2 hours Monday after semi crash with fuel leak

A semi crash that caused a fuel leak on I-95 northbound, north of International Golf Parkway, shut down the highway for two hours on Monday afternoon.

The crash, which involved a jack-knifed semi and required Hazmat crews to secure the leak, was first reported just before noon.

Lanes reopened by 2 p.m, and no injuries were reported.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 48-year-old semi driver was headed north on I-95 when traffic slowed suddenly in front of him.

He slammed on his brakes and veered left to avoid hitting other cars, troopers said.

The semi’s front right hit a guardrail and then jack-knifed, with the cab eventually facing south and the trailer blocking the left and center lanes.

The diesel fuel spillage had to be cleaned up.

The driver was wearing his seat belt, FHP said.
