An 85-year-old Daytona Beach woman was killed early Monday morning in a rear-end crash on Interstate 95 northbound in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. near the State Road 44 exit in New Smyrna Beach. A stretch of the road was shut down but has since reopened.

According to FHP, a 2017 Lincoln Continental and a 2014 Kia Soul were both traveling northbound in the center lane when the Lincoln rear-ended the Kia. The impact sent the Lincoln off the roadway onto the right shoulder and pushed the Kia into the median.

The driver of the Kia Soul, an 85-year-old woman from Daytona Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Lincoln Continental, a 42-year-old man from Edgewater, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
