A 77-year-old is recovering after a car crashed into a home in Pine Hills over the weekend.
Security camera video shows the moment a car slammed into this home on Blair Drive on Saturday.
“If my dad would have been over just a few inches literally, he wouldn’t be with us here today,” said Kenyasha Flowers, the 77-year-old’s daughter.
Kenyasha Flowers said she had just brought Father home from the hospital after he was discharged after surgery early Saturday morning. Within an hour and a half,
“I hear the loud screeching,” She said. “I hear boom! Boom! And then he starts screaming,”
According to a sheriff’s office report, a car came speeding down the road before it came up a curb and went into the house. Behind a boarded-up wall is a bathroom Flowers’ Father was in.
“When I get the room door open, there’s water everywhere, he has cuts on him,” She said.
She said he was standing at the vanity when it happened. You can see in the video from inside the home that the car was still stuck in the bathroom. The vanity pushed off the wall, and bathroom items scattered throughout.
“He was standing at the door, the impact pushed him out the door,” Flowers said.
The chaos meant another trip to the hospital for Flowers’ Dad, who ended up with cuts to his head and toes and a concussion
“He’s still not 100 percent,” Flowers said. But he’s getting better. And he’s also still kind of a little shaken up because I mean who would have thought a car would have come busting in while you’re about to brush your teeth, you know?”
As for the driver of the car, “The guy had left. He just ditched the car and left,” she said.
But the Sheriff’s Office ultimately arrested Wilkenson Charles, a few houses down. He’s now facing charges for leaving the scene.
But Flowers says speeding on the street has always been a problem
“We’ve had trees toppled over, we’ve had mailboxes toppled over, we’ve had hit and runs on the street people parked on the street. But never to this magnitude,” She said.
She said she reached out to the county mayor’s office and her county commissioner.
“They’re taking it very seriously, and they’re going to come out and begin assessments on surveying and seeing how they can make this street and area safer for everyone around here,” She said.
