Infant flown to hospital after bitten by family dog in Escambia County

An infant was flown to the hospital Wednesday morning after being bitten by the family dog, according to Escambia County officials.

It happened around 9:45 a.m. in the 6200 block of West Nine Mile Road.

Escambia County EMS responded and provided care on scene until Lifeflight arrived and transported the infant to a local hospital.

Escambia County Animal Welfare Officers also responded, recovering the pit bull mix breed dog from the home and transporting the animal to the shelter.

“The dog was secured in a crate by the owners and did not interfere with emergency responders providing patient care,” the county tells WEAR News.

Escambia County Fire Rescue and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office also responded.
