Injured mother dies in hospital after 2 kids killed in Palm Bay fire

Two children and their mother are dead after a fire ravaged a Palm Bay condo on Friday.

Firefighters were at the scene on Sunny Brook Lane around 12:40 a.m., where officials say the flames had trapped a family inside.

Even though fire rescue was aggressive and able to contain the blaze to the original fire unit, officials said in an update Friday morning that there were fatalities, including two young children.

Officials said a mother and her 7-year-old were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, but the child died hours later.

Officials also said an 11-year-old was killed in the fire.

On Saturday, Palm Bay officials confirmed that the 32-year-old mother also died from her injuries at the hospital.

A 16-year-old occupant was able to escape the fire unharmed and is staying with family, officials said.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office was called to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation pending the official report.

At this time, it is unclear how the fire started, but officials say the windy conditions made the flames erratic and hard to control.
