Jacksonville woman dead in car accident

Two separate vehicles struck Jacksonville resident Melinda Heaser, 58, on Monday.

Details have been released by the Jacksonville Police Department on a car accident which killed a woman on Monday.

At 5:26 PM, Jacksonvile Police officers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision at the intersection of Dunlap Ct. and W. College. Upon arrival, officers found 58-year-old Melinda Heaser unresponsive in the roadway.

Heaser was taken to Jacksonville Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. She had been struck by a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Tanner Birch of Jacksonville, who reported the accident to 911 and was found at the scene of the incident by police.

Birch was not initially arrested but has since been charged with failure to yield and for operating an uninsured vehicle. No charges are known to be placed upon a second driver who, after swerving to avoid Birch’s vehicle at the scene of the accident, also struck Heaser after she had been hit by Birch’s car.
