Juvenile airlifted after crash involving truck in Tavares, police say

A juvenile was airlifted to the hospital after a crash involving a truck Friday evening in Tavares, according to police.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Delaware Street and New Hampshire Avenue, a Tavares police spokesperson confirmed to News 6.

The circumstances of the crash — initially described as “a juvenile on a bicycle versus the side of a truck” — involved the truck turning left onto New Hampshire Avenue from Delaware Street, the spokesperson said in a statement.

“It is unknown on whether the juvenile came from a yard and hit the truck or whether the truck hit the child in the roadway,” the statement reads.

The crash is still being investigated and police were awaiting confirmation of the child’s medical condition at the time of this report, according to the spokesperson.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
