Kissimmee man killed in crash with tree in Osceola County, FHP says

A 47-year-old Kissimmee man died Saturday night after crashing into a tree near Poinciana, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 9:25 p.m. on Southport Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the man was driving a van westbound on Southport Road, approaching Hunt Road, when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve and struck a mailbox as a result. The van continued traveling west and hit a tree, then a fence, the report states.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP. Troopers believe he was not wearing a seat belt during the crash.

FHP is still investigating.
