LaBelle Elementary School teacher accused of battery on a student

A teacher at LaBelle Elementary School is under investigation after being accused of battery on a student.

According to an incident report from the Hendry County School District, on Oct. 28, the student was emotionally distressed and was becoming physically resistant.

Deputies from the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office were told that the teacher put her hand over the mouth of the student.

The school district found that the teacher used rough handling on the child, failed to use proper intervention procedures, and violated multiple district policies. It also states that the child was not injured.

HCSO is recommending a battery charge to the State Attorney’s Office based on the evidence.

The teacher has been removed from her position at the school and placed on administrative leave.
