A lady motorcyclist died after she was hit by a 78-year-old driver who failed to see her.
The 39-year-old Davenport woman was riding a 2024 Yamaha motorcycle at 11:22 p.m. Saturday northbound on U.S. Hwy. 27 at Sawgrass Bay Boulevard south of Clermont when she was struck from behind by a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis which was also northbound on U.S. Hwy. 27, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
The 78-year-old man driving the Mercury Grand Marquis told an investigator he did not see the motorcyclist.
A 48-year-old Clermont man was driving a 2023 Tesla Model Y behind the Mercury Grand Marquis and could not stop in time to avoid hitting the rear end of that vehicle.
The woman riding the motorcycle was transported by ambulance to AdventHealth Four Corners Emergency Room where she was pronounced dead.
The other drivers and their passengers were not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
