Lakeland man hit, killed while changing tire on I-275; FHP looking for suspect

A 37-year-old Lakeland man was killed after being struck by a car while changing his tire on the side of I-275 Friday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the other driver fled from the scene after striking the man.

The incident was reported around 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24 on I-275, just north of 4th Street North in Pinellas County.

The Lakeland man was traveling south on the highway in a Mazda 3 when he reportedly got a flat tire and pulled to the shoulder. That’s when officials said another driver failed to move over and struck the man.

The 37-year-old was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Troopers said their preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect may have been driving an unknown model Tesla.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call *FHP (*347) or Crime Stoppers at **TIPS.
