A woman was found dead inside someone else’s car outside of Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers on Sunday.
Officers responded to the hospital on Cleveland Avenue around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
FMPD dispatch said they received a call from a woman stating there is someone “hunched over laying in her car” in the parking lot.
Officers on the scene found the woman in the car unresponsive before attempting life-saving measures. Officers say they were unable to remove the victim from the car due to rigor mortis setting in.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene, per reports.
The caller, a hospital employee, said she started her shift at the hospital at 6:15 a.m. She said she was positive her car was locked before walking into the hospital.
Reports state the caller says she clocked out of work at 7:23 p.m. before making her way to her car, where she said the windows were foggy.
That’s when she said she saw someone passed out in her car. She said she attempted to wake up the victim, but the victim was unresponsive and not moving.
She then called Fort Myers police.
Officers on the scene said they did not observe any signs of foul play or drug use in the immediate area.
Officers said they found a walker in the front passenger seat of the car, along with a camo color purse that was later determined to be the victim’s.
Lee Memorial Hospital Security told officers that the victim was there visiting her husband, who was in the intensive care unit.
Detectives with the Fort Myers Police Department arrived at the hospital and took over the investigation.
The name of the victim has not been released.
